Suspension

From suspension to new opportunities!

Our school suspension programme offers a two-fold approach: we support students during their suspension with subject-specific guidance and behavioural coaching, while at the same time working on prevention by tackling risk factors at an early stage. Five elements are central: helping students keep up with schoolwork, developing positive behaviour patterns, working on a sense of purpose, actively involving parents, and ensuring good coordination with the school. Our mission is to turn a suspension into a constructive turning point.

"Suspended? We'll help you make good use of this time! Together, we make sure you don't fall behind on schoolwork, we help you learn to handle difficult situations better, and we discover what you actually want to achieve. Your parents are involved in this, and we arrange with the school how you'll return smoothly afterwards. A suspension is unpleasant, but it can also be the start of a fresh start."

learning challenge

From learning challenge to growth opportunity!

Antwerps Open Leercentrum offers tailor-made support to help young people reach their academic and/or language goals. Our experienced coaches work individually or in small groups with young people to address their specific needs. We also organise this support for OKAN students (newcomer reception classes), aiming for better chances of success in mainstream secondary education. In our safe and stimulating learning environment, all young people develop not only knowledge but also the confidence to take on challenges. This targeted approach, tailored to individual needs, helps every student reach their full potential — whether they've fallen behind in specific subjects or first need to acquire the language of instruction. This support continues through the summer holidays.

"Imagine getting one-on-one attention from a teacher who really listens to you. Instead of just following the material exactly as it's written down, this teacher can work with you to figure out what you need to understand it better. Do you need extra help with a difficult topic? Or would you like to dive deeper into something you find especially interesting? These teachers are there to help you, with patience and understanding for your personal questions and needs. It's about giving you the chance to grow in your own way."

School fatigue

From school-weary to eager to learn!

Antwerps Open Leercentrum offers an alternative learning pathway for young people who have lost their motivation for school. We guide students through flexible learning routes towards a full diploma via the exam board, with attention to personal learning styles and pace. Our approach combines subject-specific guidance with rebuilding self-confidence and motivation to learn, so that every young person can complete their educational path in a way that suits them.

"Does school feel like an obligation that no longer gives you any energy? We believe learning can also work differently. Together, we look for an approach that really suits you: at your own pace, with guidance that understands you, aiming to get that diploma in a way that works for you. It's not just about the material — it's also about rediscovering your motivation and self-confidence."
